What data do we collect?

We collect different types of information for different purposes in order to provide you with a better service.

Personal Information

In the course of using our website, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that may be used to contact or identify you (“Personal Data”). Personally identifiable information includes:

  • Name and email address: When you contact us through the contact form on our website, we store your information for the sole purpose of contacting you about your inquiry. At the bottom of these forms you will always find a special GDPR box to confirm your consent. This information is sent directly to our mailbox, and a copy remains in our secure website database as a backup.
  • Name and email address: When you add a new safe space or post a comment on an existing space, we keep your name and email address in our database along with the space and/or review. We do this to ensure that all safe spaces and reviews are genuine and accurate, and to be able to contact you with any further questions or comments. We emphasize that your data will never be used for promotional or other purposes and will only be kept for practical reasons as described above.

Wel Jong vzw undertakes to process only the data that are relevant and necessary for the purposes for which they were collected. The following categories of personal data can be processed by Wel Jong vzw:

  • Identification data
  • Personal characteristics
  • Leisure activities and interests
  • Memberships
  • Racial or ethnic data
  • Sexual life data

Usage Data

We may also collect information about how our website is visited and used (“Usage Data”). This usage data may include information such as your computer’s IP address, browser type, browser version, the website pages you visit, the time and date of your visit, time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

However, all this data is anonymized and cannot be traced back to you personally.

Tracking and cookie data

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our website and retain certain information.

Cookies are files containing a small amount of data that can contain an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your device. Tracking technologies also used are beacons, tags and scripts to collect and track information and to improve and analyze our website.

On your first visit to our website, you will be asked to accept the use of cookies. You have the choice to accept all cookies or only the essential cookies. Essential cookies are, as the name suggests, essential for the correct functioning of the website. For example, these are cookies for website security, or for the operation of technical aspects of web pages. Non-essential cookies are mainly analytical cookies, which help us collect (anonymous) data about visits to our website. In this way, we can measure, for example, how many visitors a particular page received on a given date.

You have the right to accept only the essential cookies, but in that case our website may not work optimally as envisaged when it was designed and built. In any case, if you continue browsing our website, this will be considered as consenting to the setting of your selected cookies and this privacy policy in its entirety.

You can set your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some parts of our service.

Cookies may be used for the following reasons:

  • When you accept our privacy policy, the cookie notice will no longer be shown to you;
  • When you change your preferred language on the site, we remember it for your next visit;
  • Analytics cookies are used to remember which pages you visited and how much time you spent on our website in order to analyze and improve our website performance;
  • Security cookies may be placed on your computer so that our system knows that you can be trusted and are not a robot visitor (which are unfortunately common these days).

Such cookies we use on our website include:

  • Google Analytics cookies: _ga, _gat_gtag_xxxxxxxxx, _gid
  • WordPress cookies: user, wordpress_logged_inxxxxxxxxxx, wp-settings-1, wp-settings-time-1
  • WordFence cookies: wfwaf-authcookie-xxxxxxx
  • WPML cookies: wp-wpml_current_language

Additional cookies may be placed on your computer by external services we use, such as:

  • Facebook cookies: c_user, datr, dpr, fr, sb, xs

You can prevent the setting of cookies or delete already set cookies by adjusting your browser settings. Help with adjusting these settings can be found on the website of the browser you are using. We remind you that not allowing cookies when visiting the website may result in some or all functions of the website not working properly.

Why do we collect this data?

Wel Jong vzw collects data to use it for various purposes, but the main reason is to provide you with an efficient, optimized and user-friendly website experience.

Specifically, we collect (personal) data from you for the following reasons:

  • We use Google Analytics to collect and analyze information about how our website is used, which in turn helps us understand which pages are the most popular, how people find our site, and which browsers and devices are used the most. We use these insights to improve the overall user experience of our website.
  • Using the Facebook Pixel, we can create targeted ads on Facebook for our past website visitors without even knowing who you are. This helps us target people who have already shown interest in our website and associations, so we don’t have to show people irrelevant ads. The Facebook pixel code also helps us measure the effectiveness of our ads, by linking an action on our website (e.g., submitting the contact form) to an ad campaign, so we can track what works and what doesn’t.
  • We also use a service called WordFence, which helps protect our website from malware, unauthorized login attempts and other security threats. This plugin may use cookies to store information about failed login attempts, your IP address or other security-related data to help us better protect our website.
  • To offer you the content of our website in multiple languages, we use the WPML plug-in. This plug-in uses cookies to store your language choice so that the correct language is immediately displayed on future visits.

Who has access to your data?

The data that we collect from you are stored on a server hosted by our partner Combell. They are the driving force behind our website and make sure it is easily accessible, fast, reliable, convenient and secure.

Like us, Combell takes your privacy and online security very seriously, and will protect your data with the same care. You can read more about this in their privacy policy.

Besides Combell, our website also uses a number of plugins to offer you additional features and content. These companies can also process your personal data. Of course, we make sure that any external firm, developer or provider we work with for our website complies with the same strict GDPR regulations and requirements.

The following third parties are involved in collecting our website data: Google Analytics, Facebook PixelWordFence and WPML. Each link will take you to their respective privacy policy page.

Additional legal requirements

Wel Jong vzw may disclose your personal data in the sincere belief that such disclosure is necessary to:

  • comply with a legal obligation;
  • protect and defend the rights or property of Wel Jong vzw;
  • prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the service;
  • protect the personal safety of users of the service or the public;
  • protect against legal liability.

Where will your information be transferred to?

Your information, including personal data, may be transferred to – and stored on – computers located outside your state, province, country or other government jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ from your jurisdiction.

If you are located outside Belgium and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer and process the data, including personal data, to Belgium (Combell’s servers are located in Belgium, hence your data are processed and stored there).

Other data, such as analytical data (Google Analytics) and security-related data (WordFence), may be transferred for processing and storage to other countries such as the United States.

Your consent to this privacy policy, followed by the provision of such information, constitutes your consent to this transfer.

Wel Jong vzw will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy and no transfer of your personal data will take place to any organization or country unless adequate controls are in place including the security of your data and other personal information.

If we share your data with a third-party service, we will try our best to ensure that they are 100% GDPR compliant and make sufficient efforts to protect this personal data as well as we do.

How long do we keep your data?

Personal data will be processed and retained by us for a reasonable period of time necessary to fulfill our intended purposes, depending on our contractual relationship with you or to comply with any legal requirements.

All personal data collected through the contact form on our website will remain in our secure website database for as long as reasonably necessary. We regularly clean our database to remove old data that is no longer needed to fulfill our business obligations or to contact you.

What are your rights regarding personal data?

1. Right to access your data

If you are a European resident, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you and how, why and for how long we have processed it.

2. Right to request corrections or deletion of your data.

You also have the right to request that your personal data be corrected, updated or deleted. If you wish to exercise this right, please contact us using the contact details at the bottom of this page.

In addition, if you are a European citizen, please note that we process your information in order to perform contracts with you (for example, when you place an order through our website), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests mentioned above.

3. Right to restriction of processing

In certain situations, we may no longer use your data, but also cannot delete it (yet).

Upon request, we must then temporarily stop using your data, this is called the right to restrict processing.

You can request restriction of processing in the following cases:

  • The accuracy of the data in question is disputed;
  • You do not want the data to be deleted;
  • The data are no longer needed for the original purpose, but may not yet be deleted for legal reasons;

“Restriction” means that your personal data, with the exception of storage, may only be processed with your consent for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims, for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of public interest of the EU or of an EU Member State. You must be informed before the restriction is lifted.

4. Right to transfer data

You have the right to obtain the data you have provided to us in a structured, usable and machine-readable form. This allows you to easily transfer the data to another data processor.

5. Right to withdraw consent

Your consent may be revoked at any time. Naturally, this only affects the data we have obtained solely on the basis of your consent. The data that we obtain or must store because of a legal obligation (e.g. accounting) or because of a contract (e.g. we must still deliver your service or product) are thus excluded from this.

6. Complaints

Complaints about the way in which we process your data can be submitted to the Belgian Commission for the Protection of Privacy: https://www.privacycommission.be.

Processing Time

When you request us to access, transfer, delete or correct the data we hold about you, we ask that you give us up to 30 days to process the request. We always do our best to respond as quickly as possible, but some requests may take longer depending on the complexity and extent of the data involved.

Links to external websites

Finally, we would like to inform you that our website may contain links to third-party websites. A link does not automatically mean that there is a connection between us and the other websites, nor that we (implicitly) agree with the content of these websites.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of third-party websites. Once you click on an external link, you leave our website and we cannot be held liable for any damages. We encourage you to always carefully read the privacy policy of each website you visit.

Changes to this policy

As we continue to improve our website on a regular basis, we may need to update our privacy and cookie policy from time to time. When this happens, the date at the top of this page will also be updated so that you are always aware of the new effective date. We also encourage you to check our policy regularly.
